Enterprise Automation/Malcolm-Racing
Finishes First Even with Failing to Finish in Return from Injury
Saturday Report:
The Team Enterprise Automation/Malcolm-Racing returned to competition
after missing most of the season with driver Derrick Malcolm out after
surgery to repair a ruptured disk. Malcolm took the car out for a nice
and easy slow paced warm up in the morning practice. Other than a set of
greasy Hankook tires, which had sat for over 6 months since the last
heat cycle, the car was in great shape. The car
continued to feel good in qualifying and Malcolm got back into the groove
and turned in a fast lap of 2:05 placing him 1st in class and 16th out
of 24 cars overall, finishing ahead of all slower class cars and a few
higher upper tier cars.
As the field lined up and pulled out onto the track for the pace lap
the Team Enterprise/Malcolm-Racing race car was up to 14th after several
cars failed to grid on time. As the green flag dropped, Malcolm got a
great jump and was pushing several of the faster class cars ahead for
position. Unfortunately the motor let go shortly there after and Malcolm
had to coast the car back to the pits. With no other in class
competition on Saturday, even without finishing, the team finished 1st in class, Performance Touring - PTD, and
23rd overall.
Sunday Report:
With the motor blown and the car done for the weekend, the team picked up a DNS, did not
start, for Sunday.
